FAQs

Do I need previous experience?

Not necessarily. We offer courses and guided days for a wide range of abilities, from complete beginners through to experienced climbers looking to tackle more challenging objectives. Some courses, such as Winter Skills, require no previous winter experience, while advanced courses and guided winter climbs may require prior hillwalking, scrambling, or climbing experience. If you're unsure which option is right for you, get in touch and we'll recommend the most suitable course based on your experience and goals.

What fitness level is required??

A reasonable level of fitness is recommended for all of our courses and guided days, as mountain activities often involve several hours of walking over rough terrain and carrying a small rucksack. You don't need to be an athlete, but being comfortable walking for a full day outdoors will help you get the most from your experience. If you have concerns about your fitness or are returning to the hills after a break, please get in touch and we'll advise on the most suitable option.

Can I hire equipment?

What's included?

Yes. Most technical equipment can be provided, including helmets, harnesses, crampons, ice axes and climbing equipment where required. Kit list before can to located on the course page of this website. If you're unsure what you need, just ask, we're happy to help.

What happens in bad weather?

Scotland's weather can be unpredictable, but that's all part of the mountain experience. We will always aim to deliver the best possible day based on the conditions. This may involve changing venues, routes, or objectives to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. If conditions are genuinely unsafe and no suitable alternative can be found, we'll discuss the available options with you as early as possible.

Can I come alone?

Absolutely. Many of our clients join courses or book guided days on their own. Whether you're looking to develop skills, tackle a specific objective, or simply spend a day in the mountains with a qualified guide, you'll be made very welcome. Private guiding is also available for those who would prefer a one-to-one experience.

All courses and guided days include professional instruction or guiding from a qualified and experienced mountain professional, along with the use of any technical equipment required for the activity. Prior to your course, you'll receive joining information, kit advice, and any planning support you may need. Accommodation, transport, food and personal clothing are not included unless specifically stated in the course description.
