the Ascent
Walking the Chogoria Route on Mount Kenya is often considered the most scenic way up the mountain. The trail leads you through rolling hills, expansive moorlands, and dramatic valleys carved by ancient glaciers. One of the route’s highlights is the approach to the breathtaking Gorges Valley, where sheer cliffs and waterfalls create unforgettable views. As you continue upward, the path opens to stunning alpine landscapes and the striking turquoise waters of Lake Michaelson below the Temple cliffs. Though longer than other routes, the Chogoria path offers a gentler ascent and some of the mountain’s most beautiful scenery, making the journey as rewarding as the summit itself.
the Descent
Descending Mount Kenya via the Naro Moru Route offers a smooth, satisfying finish to the climb. The trail winds quite steeply down through wide alpine valleys dotted with giant lobelias and groundsels before transitioning into forest alive with birds and colobus monkeys.
